Dr. Farouk El-Baz took involved in NASA's Apollo programme (from 1967 to 1972) as chair of astronaut training in visual observations and photography and secretary of lunar landing site selection. He founded and oversaw the National Air and Space Museum's Center for Earth and Planetary Studies in Washington, DC, from 1973 to 1982. Before joining Boston University in 1986 to create and run the Center for Remote Sensing, he later worked as Vice President of Itek Optical Systems. He was the late President Anwar Sadat's science advisor and is currently a member of President El-Sisi of Egypt's Advisory Council. He has received the NASA Apollo Achievement Award, the First Class Order of Merit from Egypt, and he is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, Royal Astronomical Society, African Academy of Sciences, and the Moroccan Academy of Science and Technology.
