Title: Monitoring of urban land surface subsidence using PS In SAR in TANGIER in the NORTH OF MOROCCO

Abstract:

The city of Tangier is located at the NW end of the Moroccan Atlantic coast, it is considered the gateway to Africa, 14 km from Europe.it is the seat of an intense Plio-Quaternary and current tectonic activity generated by the convergence of two lithospheric plates, Africa and Eurasia. Tangier is submitted to a significant number of landslides each year due to its lithological, structural and morphological complexity; which cause a lot of damage to the road network and other related infrastructure. The main objective of this study is to measure, to tcheck displacement and create a landslide indexed susceptibility map of Tangier using the persistent scatterer interferometry synthetic aperture radar technology with Sentinel-1.

The Sarproz software was used to analyze a series of Sentinel-1A images taken from November 2019 to December 2022 along ascending and descending orbit paths to assess land subsidence. The data reveal  that The general pattern of subsidence indicated very high values in the beach of Mediouna, the speed of subsidence is increasingly strong, it reaches -23.5 mm. we also observe on the contrary   lower values south of MEDIOUNA in particular  cap ACHKAR beach and also north of cap SPARTEL, the values are between 10 mm and 20.7 mm . whereas locations outside the city center saw minimal subsidence. Overall, the proposed technique effectively maps, identifies, and monitors land areas susceptible to subsidence. will allow for more efficient planning, construction of surface infrastructure, and control of subsidence-induced risks.
