Biography:

Dr. Hiroshan Hettiarachchi is an associate professor of civil engineering at Lawrence Technological University (LTU) in Southfield, Michigan. He received his PhD from New Jersey Institute of Technology, MS from Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand and BS from University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka.

He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Michigan. He teaches undergraduate and graduate level geotechnical engineering courses at LTU and conducts research in the areas of properties and behavior of soils and geotechnical aspects of waste management. He has published extensively on topics covering geotechnical properties of municipal solid waste and settlement behavior of landfills.

Hiroshan Hettiarachchi is an Academic Officer at the United Nations University Institute for Integrated Management of Material Fluxes and of Resources. As a waste management expert, he focuses on the sustainable utilisation of waste as a resource, with an emphasis on wastewater recycling and organic waste composting.
